Dial-a-Cab

  • Mobile data terminals

Our current MDTs In 1989, Dial-a-Cab became the first taxi circuit in Europe to install a completely computerised booking and despatch system with a mobile data terminal in every cab. Later, in 2000, the company rolled out its new touch screen terminals, which remain unrivalled in the trade to this day. These new state of the art terminals, designed and built specifically for Dial-a-Cab, paved the way for the modern mobile data systems that are now common place in so many of the worlds vehicle fleets.

As you can see on the right, this is what our current terminals look like. Despite being their age, these are still the most sophisticated Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs) in the industry. The current features include:

    • A large TFT colour screen (8.4 inches diagonal)
    • Lettering and background colours can be changed to users choice
    • Totally touch screen
    • The contents of the screen can be expanded for easier viewing
    • The map facility for example can be expanded four times its original size
    • Attached to the screen housing is a Swipe facility to take most major credit cards including the Dial-a-Cab Chargecard
    • Thermal printer for receipts
    • Supports integration with a range of taxi meters
    • Integrated GPS support, radio & modem
    • Pole-mounted with a quick-release handle

The time has come however to take the next step in mobile data terminal design. Dial-a-Cab intends to replace its current fleet with a new custom built terminal within the next 18 months. Our goal is simply to design and build the best taxi mobile data terminal in the world. In addition to the current MDT features, the new terminal will also have:
